The
tomato sandwich is one of the simplest, which means that its success rests
entirely upon the quality of its only filling—the tomato. A perfectly ripe tomato
is often hard to come by, especially in colder climates, which is why when one
is found, it should be consumed with proper appreciation. A tomato sandwich
should also be consumed instantly; everyone knows that if left to sit, the
tomato can be the sandwich’s worst enemy, and there is nothing worse than a
tomato juice-induced patch of soggy bread.
