Elvis
Presley, “The King” of rock ‘n’ roll, surely needs no introduction. He was
renowned for loving his high-calorie snacks, especially when cooked by his
mother. Aww. This, apparently, was his favorite sandwich: a sweet and salty
combination of peanut butter, banana, and sizzling streaky bacon. Elvis clearly
wasn’t a man to do things by halves, however, so the sandwich, once built, was
reputedly fried in butter. It can be served with or without a drizzle of honey.
Makes 1
INGREDIENTS
3 slices streaky bacon
2 slices white bread
Smooth peanut butter (or crunchy if you
prefer)
1 banana, sliced
Butter, for frying
A drizzle of honey, to serve (optional)
Preheat the broiler (grill) to high. Broil
(grill) the bacon until crisp. Spread 1 slice of bread with peanut butter, then
top with the banana slices and bacon, followed by the second slice of bread.
Melt
a generous knob of butter in a frying pan or skillet and cook the sandwich
until golden and crisp on both sides. Serve at once with a drizzle of honey, if
you like.
