The favorite
lunch of New York’s senior senator, Chuck Schumer, is packing (deep breath)
roast beef, banana peppers (banana chilies), jalapeños, onions, tomatoes,
double pickles, mayo, and mustard on Italian bread. I can only but imagine the
pickle-laced onion breath.
Schumer has reportedly thrown a tantrum should
he feel insufficient attention has been paid to the making of his sandwich,
berating aides who failed to watch every layer of construction with an eagle
eye.

INGREDIENTS
1 Italian-style crusty white roll, split
open
Mayonnaise
Yellow (American-style) mustard
3 slices cold roast beef
1 tomato, sliced
Sliced (seeded) banana peppers (banana
chilies), mild green Turkish peppers, or yellow bell peppers
Sliced red onion
Sliced dill pickles—as many as you dare
Pickled jalapeño slices
Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
Spread one half of the roll with mayonnaise and
the other with mustard. Fill the roll by layering on the roast beef, followed
by the tomato, banana peppers (banana chilies), red onion, dill pickles, and
pickled jalapeño slices. Season with salt and pepper and serve.
